JAMMU: In a significant step towards women’s empowerment and skill development, the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu Division has initiated the reopening of Ladies Vocational Centers (LVCs) that were temporarily closed during COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, Director Social Welfare Rupesh Kumar inaugurated a Ladies Vocational Center at Tehsil Akhnoor, achieving another milestone in this initiative. Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Dheeraj Lakhnotra and other staff members were also present.
The objective of these centers is to provide women with vocational training in trades such as tailoring, embroidery, and knitting, enabling them to become self-reliant and generate income through their skills.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Rupesh Kumar stated, “The reopening of these centers is not just about skill development, it is about instilling confidence and creating opportunities for women to become self-sufficient.” Empowered women are the foundation of a progressive society.”
Prior to the reopening of the Akhnoor center, LVCs in Districts Poonch and Reasi, had already resumed operations, witnessing enthusiastic participation from women eager to learn new skills and improve their economic status.
The Department of Social Welfare remains committed to expanding the reach of these centers, introducing modern techniques to align with current market demands.
