Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Shopian & Sopore and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Shopian, a Police team from Police Station Shopian at a checkpoint established at Girward Zawoora, intercepted two suspects identified as Basharat Ali S/o Bahadur Ali and Mohd Mushtaq Thakker S/o Ab Rashid Thakker, both residents of Dandoot, Rajouri and during search recovered 739 grams of Heroin-like substance from their possession, Stating therein further that investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the individuals.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Sopore, a police team led by Incharge Police Post Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore and SHO Police Station Sopore, during patrolling at Reban, intercepted a suspect identified as Shakir Ahmad Khan S/o Ghulam Nabi Khan R/o Reban and during search recovered 103 grams of charas like substance from his possession.
Stating all the said accused persons have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reiterated its commitment to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking from the district. Police in its statement also appealed people to cooperate with it and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or dial 112.
