Jammu: The District Administration Jammu on Tuesday organised a training programme to train resource persons to intensify the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.
The programme was held at Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal emphasised the administration’s commitment to combating the menace of drug abuse through mass awareness. She urged the resource persons to effectively engage with the public using vernacular languages to ensure better outreach and understanding.
“The resource persons must thoroughly imbibe the information and skills imparted during the training. It is essential to extensively circulate the helpline number to offer assistance to those in need,” the ADM said.
She further informed that awareness camps are being organised at the grassroots level, in every panchayat, at government schools and in urban local bodies as part of the initiative. The details of all such camps are being uploaded on a centralised portal for real-time monitoring by the J&K administration.
Highlighting the role of various departments, the ADM noted that the Information Department has produced a documentary film on drug abuse, which must be widely screened for public awareness. She added that departments such as Social Welfare, Police and the District Red Cross Society have been assigned specific responsibilities to ensure the campaign’s success.
SP Headquarters Irshad Rather; Child Protection Officer, Sheraz Inayat Malik; Medical Officer, Dr. Arti Sharma; and District Health Officer, Dr. Samina Nasir also addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach in tackling the issue. The programme began with a welcome address by Senior Lecturer, Shifali Gupta.
The District Administration is regularly organising IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities to raise awareness against drug abuse. Help can be sought on helpline numbers– Police Helpline 9086 100 100, Drug De Addiction Helpline 14446 and Mental Health Helpline 14416.
