Union Joint Secretary inspects Watershed Development Projects in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR: Union Joint Secretary Watershed Management, Ministry of Rural Development, Nitin Khade conducted an extensive tour of Udhampur district today. As part of his visit, he inaugurated the Watershed Janbhagidari Cup under the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 here at Gudhar Panchayat.
He was accompanied by Project Manager IWMP Tanveer-ul-Majid Wani along with other team members of the Project Implementing Agency.
During the visit, the Joint Secretary interacted with Sarpanches, Watershed Committee members, Self-Help Group members and local residents of the project area. He also inspected various watershed development works being executed under the project, including water bowlies, Rainwater harvesting tanks, Protection works, Diversion Drains
Later, a documentary on IWMP works under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 was also released, showcasing the progress and impact of the initiatives undertaken.
Earlier, the Project Officer IWMP along with former PRI members welcomed the Union Joint Secretary and provided a brief overview of the watershed development works being implemented across the district.
In his address, the Joint Secretary engaged with the PRIs, local representatives, and stakeholders, attentively listening to their concerns. He assured them that their genuine issues would be addressed on a priority basis. He also commended the IWMP Udhampur team for its dedicated efforts in ensuring effective doorstep delivery of services.
Emphasizing the importance of water conservation, he urged the community to adopt rainwater harvesting techniques, including rooftop rainwater harvesting, percolation pits, check dams, diversion drains and roadside drainage systems, to enhance water availability for various purposes.
