Other NC MLA’s, Opposition MLA Backs Allegations; Minister Assures Verification
Demands for Clear Answer from Govt grows higher
Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday witnessed heated scenes as National Conference MLA and member of the ruling coalition, Aijaz Jan, accused officials of depriving deserving families of their rightful place in the AAY and BPL lists and forcefully shifting them into the APL category.
In response to a query, the government stated that it does not maintain manual updation lists of beneficiaries, claiming that all changes are captured on the RCMS portal (rcms.jk.gov.in), which is available in the public domain.
Rejecting the government’s response, Aijaz Jan rose from his seat and said, “What answer should I give to the people who come to my doorstep every day? Crores of rupees are being taken by certain DEOs from the poor, and those who genuinely deserve to be on the AAY and BPL lists are being pushed into the APL category.”
In an emotional appeal, he said, “This is the situation of my own government. The people gave their mandate to the National Conference — for this? For not giving them answers?”
The outburst triggered noisy scenes, with senior opposition leader Mir Saifullah and several other MLAs from the opposition benches also raising similar concerns, accusing the system of corruption and injustice against the poor.
Responding to the uproar, the concerned Minister assured the House, saying, “If such serious allegations are being made, verification will certainly be initiated, and all information will be shared with the House.”
However, dissatisfaction remained on both sides of the House, with members questioning the lack of accountability in schemes meant for the most marginalized sections.
The situation turned more heated as other NC MLAs, including senior leader Mir Saifullah, joined Aijaz Jan in demanding a clear and transparent response from the government. They accused the administration of allowing corruption at the grassroots level, where deserving families are allegedly being pushed out of AAY and BPL lists, and called for immediate verification and corrective action.
