Srinagar : As part of its ongoing efforts to promote fitness, community engagement, and road safety awareness, Police in Handwara on Tuesday organized a cycle race under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2024-25. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from cyclists across various age groups, highlighting the community’s growing interest in sports and a healthy lifestyle.
The race was flagged off by SSP Handwara Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary-JKPS, along with ASP Handwara and other senior police officers, from Main Chowk, Langate. Cyclists navigated a challenging yet scenic route, passing through Langate Bridge, T-Junction, and Bypass Handwara, before culminating at the Environment Hall, Handwara. Participants demonstrated great zeal, endurance and sportsmanship, making the event a grand success.
During the prize distribution ceremony, SSP Handwara emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, unity, and positive engagement among youth. He reiterated the police department’s commitment to strengthening community relations and encouraged young people to actively participate in sports and other constructive activities.
The winners were felicitated with trophies, medals and certificates, serving as motivation for the youth to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. SSP Handwara in his concluding remarks, emphasized upon the need to ensure a drug free society and enjoined upon all the participants to carry the message forward to the society members. He reiterated that police as responsible institution is committed to help the individuals trapped in substance abuse however he said that those responsible for pushing our youth into drug addiction will be dealt strictly as per the provisions of law. He appreciated the participants and advised them to continue their educational pursuits with same zeal which they exhibited in the cycling event
