8,355 Cancer Cases Detected in J&K in 2024; 50,551 in Last 5 Years: Govt in Assembly

Srinagar,: The government on Tuesday said that 8,355 cancer cases were detected in Jammu and Kashmir in 2024, as per the Population-Based Cancer Registry.

In a written reply to a question tabled by Justice Hasnain Masoodi in the Assembly, as per news agency JKNS, the government said that the total number of cancer cases recorded over the last five years is 50,551, while 8,355 Cancer cases were detected in J&K in the year 2024.

It also stated that the percentage of lung cancers out of total cancers has remained static in J&K, and no research-based inquiry has been conducted so far into the role of pollution and emissions from cement factories in Khrew and Khonmoh.

The government further clarified that no conference was held at SKIMS where Srinagar was officially declared the “Lung Cancer Capital” of the country. (JKNS)
