Srinagar:- The DIG North Kashmir Tuesday said the police was organising sport activities to build strong relationship with the and also to combat the growing menace of drug abuse in the Valley.
Talking to reporters after the grand finale of a cricket tournament at Sopore as per JKNS , DIG Maqsood ul Zaman said that the crucial role of sports is not only enhancing physical health but also instilling key life skills such as discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership.
Acknowledging the rising concern of drug addiction among youth, he emphasized the importance of timely interventions to protect them from this societal menace.
Zaman stressed that drug abuse poses a significant challenge, threatening the youth, who are the future of the region.
To counter this, initiatives like sports tournaments are being promoted to provide a healthy alternative, offering young individuals a platform to showcase their talent, build confidence, and avoid harmful distractions.
He also pointed out the dual benefits of such initiatives—fostering youth development while strengthening the relationship between the police and the community.
By engaging in these activities, the police aim to build trust, cooperation, and mutual respect with the youth, thereby breaking barriers and improving communication.
