Kupwara : District Administration Kupwara on Tuesday launched the Watershed Yatra, a nationwide outreach campaign aimed to encourage people’s participation (Janbhagidari) and raise awareness about watershed development activities under the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 (WED- PMKSY).
In this connection a Mega Event was organized by the District Administration Kupwara in sports stadium Magam Handwara.
The Watershed Yatra is a nationwide outreach campaign designed to inform and engage local communities about the importance of watershed management and its role in sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and ecosystem preservation. The campaign is centered around Janbhagidari (people’s participation), aiming to empower local communities to actively contribute to the success of watershed development initiatives.
The event saw participation of MLA Langate, Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh; DDC Member Nutnussa, Zahoor Ahmad; DDC Rajwar, Mir Suliman; Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Kupwara, Mudassir Ahmad, besides, senior officials from administration, farmers and community members attended the programme.
During the event, key highlights of the PMKSY 2.0 were discussed, along with the benefits of watershed development, such as improved soil health, increased water availability for irrigation, and enhanced agricultural productivity.
The Watershed Yatra will travel to various locations across the district, creating a platform for interactions between farmers, experts, and local authorities to discuss challenges and solutions related to water management and sustainable farming practices.
The Representatives and Officers emphasized the importance of active community participation and collaboration for the success of watershed programs, which are pivotal in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, improving agricultural resilience, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of water resources.
Meanwhile, Certificates of Appreciation were distributed among the functionaires of Watershed Management.
A plantation drive was also conducted at the venue in which MLA Langate and DDC members took part.
