Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has successfully apprehended an accused involved in an ATM card swapping fraud in Srinagar.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that on 12 th February Police Post Bagyas received a written complaint from a lady namely Shaheena W/o Zahoor Ahmad Najar R/o Kupwara, stating therein that she along with her daughter, had visited Dental College, Shreen Bagh, for a dental checkup. Stating that while using an ATM located within the complex, an unknown individual inside the booth deceptively swapped her ATM card and subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 from her account, Police in its statement further said that while acting promptly, a case FIR No. 14/2025 U/S 318(4), 305 BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was taken up thereafter.
Police in its statement further said that during the course of investigation, a team headed by Incharge Police Post Bagyas was constituted, adding therein that after strenuous efforts and with the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM the said police squad identified the suspect as Burhan Al Rah S/o Gh Qadir Rah R/oi Bonpora, Nowgam who was subsequently arrested, adding therein thatmultiple ATM cards were recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Stating that the investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of the said accused in other similar fraudulent activities and more recoveries are expected Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reiterated its commitment to eliminate social crimes from the society, appealing therein the people to share information about anti-social elements with J&K Police in shaping better society and good future for youth.
