DC Kulgam distributes Fishing equipment among beneficiaries, Stresses on need to uplift the marginal community

Kulgam: In order to boost the morale of fishing community, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan on Saturday distributed incentives in the form of fishing equipments including Handle Nets, Covering Nets, Weighing Balances etc among 11 beneficiaries covered under HADP for the year 2024-25.
The event held in the lawns of Mini-Secretariat witnessed participation by a number of beneficiaries.
Interacting with the beneficiaries, the DC emphasized on the importance of generation of employment avenues in the Fisheries sector by way of adopting fish culture practices to achieve gainful employment.
The concerned officials of the Department were directed to increase the awareness among the masses to create such employment generation units and proper utilization of water resources in the District.
Besides, 02 three wheeler vehicles for the transportation of fish stocks were also distributed to the beneficiaries covered under PMMSY during this year. The provision aims to boost fish cultural practices and transportation of livestock procured from the wild.
It is worth to mention that during 2024-25, 21 fish rearing tanks for culture of Trout stand were established while, 01 Trout Hatchery was also provided to entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector during 2024-25 under PMMSY & HADP.
Being the downtrodden community, under Nutritional and livelihood support a sub component of PMMSY 550 registered fishermen were benefitted and Rs 3000 each were transferred through DBT mode, he added.
The cultural fish production, both in private and government farms stands at 220MTs from 160 units in the district. These units in the private sector have provided employment to 480 families directly or indirectly.
