Jammu: A group of 55 farmers and entrepreneurs from Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur Districts was flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen here from the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan on Training cum Exposure visit outside J&K. The five-day visit, scheduled from 20th to 24th January 2025, to Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Ludhiana has been arranged under HADP 2024-25, Project no. 01, Development of Seed and Seed Multiplication Chain.
The Director Agriculture Jammu, while interacting with the farmers, said that the training cum exposure visit is being organized to acquaint the farmers and entrepreneurs with different aspects of Development of Seed and Seed Multiplication Chain. “Seed multiplication is essential because it ensures that the genetic purity of the seed is maintained as it transitions from breeder to farmer. This process guarantees that the variety performs as expected, enhancing both yield and quality,” he maintained.
Director A.S Reen encouraged the farmers and entrepreneurs to actively engage with the scientists and researchers during their visit to PAU Ludhiana. He further asked the farmers to utilize the technology in their fields after learning from such training and also share it with fellow farmers in their respective communities.
Joint Director Agriculture Extension/SLUB, Satish Sharma stressed the importance of applying the newly acquired skills and technologies in their agricultural practices, which can significantly contribute to improving farm productivity and profitability.
Agriculture Chemist Jammu, Dr. Aman Jyoti Sharma, SMS-RL Dharmesh Vaid, and other officers from the office of the Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Jammu were present on the occasion. Five officers are also accompanying the farmers for the training cum Exposure Visit to Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Ludhiana.
