“As a young kid it was always my dream to play for New Zealand and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country,” Guptill said in an statement to New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Wednesday.

“I will forever cherish the memories made wearing the silver fern alongside a great group of guys,” he said.

Guptill, who made his debut for New Zealand in 2009, scored 7436 runs across 198 ODIs, to go with 3531 from 122 T20Is. The swashbuckling right-handed batter also played 47 Tests for the Black Caps, returning with 2586 runs, an ICC report said.

He was a key member of the New Zealand sides that made it to successive ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019.

In 2015, as the Brendon McCullum-led side finished runner-ups, co-hosting the tournament, Guptill finished as the top-scorer with 547 runs.

During the campaign, he went on to blast 237 off 163 deliveries against West Indies, which remains the second-highest individual score in ODIs.

In 2021, Guptill was also part of the New Zealand squad which made it to the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.

His last appearance for the Black Caps in a T20I against Bangladesh in Christchurch.

With 13463 runs across formats, Guptill finishes as the fifth-highest run-getter for New Zealand in men’s cricket behind only Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum.
