Police Arrest Accused in Circulation of Indecent Video in Awantipora

Warns Against Circulating such Videos Online

Srinagar): Police in Awantipora arrested individual involved in circulating a sexually explicit video of a girl on social media platforms.

A case under the IT Act has been registered, with investigations ongoing and further arrests expected.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, On 26-12-2024 a written complaint was received by Police in Awantipora from one person that his sisters’ (Name with held) video having indecent contents (sexually explicit) is being circulated among various social media platforms /whatsapp groups by various persons.

Taking the cognizance of the offence related to uploading of indecent contents, Police registered a case vide FIR No. 186/2024 under relevant provisions of IT Act and BNS in Police Station Awantipora and investigation was taken up., it reads.

During the preliminary investigation, officers found allegations were true. Accordingly taking swift action, the accused involved in the commission of crime have been arrested. Further investigation of the instant case is going on and arrest of more involved accused is expected.

Statement further reads that, Police suggests/advises social media users not to upload /circulate such kind of videos which is an offence under Information Technology Act and carries punishment for a term which may extend upto 07 years and fine upto 10 Lakh Rupees. Any person found deviating the suggestion/ advice will be dealt under law, reads the statement. (JKNS)
