DC reviews solid waste management system in Jammu district

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya on Monday convened a meeting to assess the progress of solid waste management initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Mission across different blocks of the district.

The Block Development Officers provided updates on the implementation of waste segregation, door-to-door collection and processing in their respective jurisdictions.

The DC called upon the BDOs to accelerate efforts in managing plastic waste, ensuring proper segregation and strengthening household-level waste collection mechanisms.

Highlighting the role of community participation, the DC stressed the need for public vigilance to curb improper garbage disposal. He instructed officials to identify offenders and work with local authorities to maintain cleanliness in villages.

Sub-Divisional Magistrates were also directed to coordinate with Executive Officers of their respective municipalities within their jurisdictions to enhance and streamline waste management operations within a set deadline.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Shahzada Noor ul Ain, besides SDMs and BDOs.
