6 drug peddlers arrested across valley, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kupwara, Shopian & Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Srinagar, a police party of Police Station Nowhatta during routine naka checking at Malkha Chowk, apprehended a suspect Zubair Ahmad Ahanger S/o Amin Ahanger R/o Kathi Darwaza and during search, recovered approximately 40 grams of charas like contraband substance from the possession of the said accused. Police in its statement further said that on the disclosure of the said accused another suspect namely Bilal Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh. Qadir Sheikh R/o Tujgari Mohalla, was apprehended near old Malkha Chowk and upon his personal search, approximately 80 grams of charas were recovered.
Stating that in Kupwara also a police party of Police Station Kralpora at a checkpoint established at Khazanmatti, intercepted two susectsidentified as Aasim Sultan Sheikh S/o Mohd Sultan Sheikh R/o Trehgam, and Mujtahid Nazir S/o Nazir Ahmad Lone R/o Khumriyal , Police in its statement said that during search approximately 13 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused following which investigation was initiated to establish the backward and forward linkages of the drug trade and uncover any networks involved.
Police in its statement further said that in Shopian also Police Station Keller received an input about one Gh Mohammad Parray S/o Ab Ahad Parray R/o Chowan Keller having concealed Charas like contraband substance in his residential house. Stating that while acting swiftly, a police Party from Police Station Keller along with Executive Magistrate raided the said residential house and during search recovered 41 grams charas like contraband substance , Police in its statement said that further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individual, adding therein that the operation was meticulously executed by SHO Police Station Keller under the supervision of SSP Shopian Anayat Ali Chowdhary.
Police in its statement further said that in Kulgam, a police party of Police post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Ganjipora, Mirbazar, intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration no PB07AF-2124 driven by Davinder Singh S/o Karnail Singh R/o Rajpur safdarpur district Hoshiarpur Punjab and during search, 3.140 Kgs of poppy straw concealed in a bag, was recovered.
Police in its statement furthermore said all the accused were arrested and vehicle used in commission of crime was seized and the cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
