Kupwara: Kupwara Police, in collaboration with the Army, successfully recovered a consignment of heroin and arms in a joint search operation at Chinotra, Village Amrohi, near the Line of Control (LoC).

An official sharing details about the incident told the news agency JKNS that, acting on credible intelligence, the operation led to the seizure of four packets of heroin-like substances weighing approximately 3.8 kilograms and four pistols along with six magazines, concealed by suspected terrorists.

He said an FIR under Sections 113 BNS, 7/25 IA Act, 8/21 NDPS Act, and UAPA has been registered. Authorities are now working to identify the perpetrators and uncover the networks involved.

“This action is part of Kupwara Police’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking and terrorism. In 2024 alone, 7 individuals have been detained under the PIT NDPS Act, with the total number standing at 14 detentions this year. Additionally, three residential properties have been attached under the UAPA, emphasizing efforts to dismantle terror and drug support networks,” he said.

Notably, from January this year, 20 NDPS cases have been filed, with 103 drug peddlers arrested, bringing the total drug-related crackdown numbers to 67 cases in 2024. Seizures this year include: 21.82 kilograms of heroin, 2.37 kilograms of charas, 30 kilograms of poppy husk, 202 bottles of illicit liquor, and Rs 93,705 in cash.

Furthermore, five residential properties have been attached as part of preemptive action to combat drug networks.—(JKNS)
