Cyber Cell recovers Rs. 1,55,208 in online financial frauds in Kupwara

Srinagar: Cyber Cell of District Police Kupwaraon Saturday successfully resolved multiple cases of online financial fraud, recovering a total of Rs. 1,55,208.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in July 2024, the Cyber Cell of Kupwara Police received a complaint regarding an online earning fraud in which the complainant was duped of Rs. 84,380. Acting swiftly, the Cyber Cell collected evidence and information from the victim. Police in its statement further said that while using advanced cyber tactics, the team successfully recovered the entire amount of Rs. 84,380, which was credited back to the victim’s account.
Stating that another case was reported in December this year involving an online financial fraud of Rs. 1,01,196, Police in its statement further said that the victim received a fraudulent call posing as Jio Customer Care, asking them to recharge their SIM for Rs10. The Police in its statement further said that following the recharge, the victim’s bank account was debited by Rs. 1,01,196, adding therein that upon receiving the complaint, the Cyber Cell collected evidence and analysed the case.
Stating that cyber cell successfully recovered Rs. 65,418 from a merchant where the fraudster had ordered an Apple iPhone 15, and this amount was credited back to the victim’s account, Police in its statement further said that in a separate incident, a complainant lost Rs. 5,430 after searching for jobs online and unknowingly sharing credentials and personal details, adding therein that the fraudster, impersonating officials of a reputed company, conducted fake interviews and demanded money for registration. Police in its statement further said that the Cyber Cell recovered Rs. 4,560, which was credited back to the victim’s account.
Stating that in another case a victim had lost Rs. 850 after being contacted through a fake advertisement on Instagram, Police in its statement further said that the Cyber Cell promptly acted and managed to recover Rs. 850, which was credited back to the victim’s account.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to remain vigilant against digital scams like online fake trading, suspicious links, fake SMS credit messages, unauthorized apps, loan apps, fake tasks on Instagram or Telegram, fraudulent calls for SIM updates, and fake video callsand avoid sharing personal information online and report any suspicious activities immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in.
