Srinagar: As the Kashmir valley awaited the arrival of Chillai Kalan, the harsh winter period of 40 days, snowfall has been recorded in higher altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif, sharing details with the news agency JKNS, said the world-famous ski resort Gulmarg has received about 1 inch of snow, while Sonamarg has recorded 3 inches. “Snowfall was also reported at Zojila Pass, Razdan Top, Gurez, Sadhna Top, and other places,” he said.
He said the western disturbance is expected to intensify tonight, with a possibility of light snowfall in some plains by early tomorrow morning. “There is a 40% chance of light snow in certain plains, while a 20% chance of a moderate spell exists in a few areas,” he said.
“No significant snowfall is expected in the Jammu region. Meanwhile, parts of Kargil district could experience light to moderate snowfall in the next 24 hours,” he said.
Moreover, weather conditions are expected to improve from tomorrow afternoon, with dry weather anticipated across Jammu and Kashmir for the next 10 days.
