Srinagar: In a moment of pride for Jammu & Kashmir, Rubiya Syed, representing the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), has been shortlisted for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 player auction. The auction is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on December 15, 2024. Her selection has ignited enthusiasm among aspiring cricketers in the region, marking a significant achievement for women’s cricket in J&K.
According to Brigadier Anil Gupta, her inclusion in the auction is a testament to her hard work and talent. “Her selection will inspire many young girls in J&K to pursue cricket and compete at the highest levels,” he remarked. The JKCA also extended its best wishes to Rubiya and expressed hope for her successful inclusion in one of the five WPL franchises. The WPL 2025 auction will feature a total of 120 players, including 29 overseas cricketers, competing for 19 available slots. Among these, five spots are reserved for overseas players. Teams are expected to use strategic budgeting with increased purse limits of ₹15 crore per franchise this season to finalize their rosters. As women’s cricket gains momentum globally, Rubiya’s potential selection will further spotlight the talent emerging from J&K and contribute to the region’s cricketing legacy.
