Belgrade: The third world war has already begun, the only question is whether nuclear weapons will be used, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Friday.
“It is not a question whether the third world war has begun. It has begun, the only question is whether the conflict will escalate to the use of nuclear weapons, nothing more,” Vulin was quoted by the Serbian government as saying at the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum in the United Arab Emirates.
The Western countries lost the trust of free states with the bombing of Serbia in 1999, Vulin said.
“NATO’s aggression against Serbia in 1999 was the last unpunished crime in the cursed and bloody 20th century. And no one was accused of it, even the United Nations never said anything about it, did not review it. NATO’s aggression against Serbia is the peak of the unipolar world … After the aggression against Serbia, NATO and the West lost moral weight,” he said.
Vulin wondered how the West could demand after this that “Serbia agree that Ukraine’s borders are sacred, but Serbia’s are not?”
“Thanks to [Serbian] President [Aleksandar] Vucic, we are brave enough to say that we will not impose sanctions against Russia, we do not want to interrupt cooperation with China. We want to be free, this is our choice,” Vulin said.
Vucic earlier expressed concern about the state of the bomb shelters in light of a possible nuclear threat in the world, which he said was depressing. He said on November 19 that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons if Moscow was threatened and there was no other way out.
Vucic said that Serbia is not currently ready for a nuclear conflict, as it has only 257,000 shelter places, the infrastructure of which needs to be updated to reach 1.5 million places, with the country’s population of about 7 million people.
Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Putin has said the operation aims to “protect who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” The Russian president said the special operation was a forced measure, Russia “was left with no chance to act differently, the security risks were such that it was impossible to respond by other means.”
