JAMMU: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has permanently created a hub of National Security Guards (NSG) in the Jammu City to counter any major terror-attack while a security plan has been formulated for high-rise buildings, security installations and public places of sensitive nature in the City and its outskirts after security audit.

Official told the Excelsior that a special component of the NSG is now permanently in place in the Jammu City to act within minutes in case such a situation arises to take on the terrorists. The NSG hub was created in the City by the Union Home Ministry following terror attacks in different districts on security forces in the Jammu region and reports that the terrorists could also target the City.

Declining to disclose strength of the NSG on operational grounds, the officials, however, said the numbers are “more than enough” to tackle any kind of terror attack in the region.

“Previously, in case the necessity to call the NSG was felt to eliminate the terrorists involved in the attack, the NSG commandos had to be airlifted either from New Delhi or Chandigarh which was time-consuming exercise. However, now the NSG commandos will be readily available in the Jammu City,” they said.

Deployment of the NSG commandos is part of an anti-terror plan formulated for Jammu and Kashmir by the JKP especially for the high-rise buildings, security installations and public places of sensitive nature if there is any kind of terror attack.

“Though there has been no presence of terrorists and the terrorists are not in a position to breach multi-layer security walls to enter the City, the plan has been put in place to meet with any eventuality, the officials said adding the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Jammu and Kashmir Police will be in forefront to tackle the attacks and the NSG will always be part of a back-plan if the encounter prolongs and the need arises to take their help.

The SOG, the JKP and its affiliated wings will be in forefront while help of other security agencies will be taken depending upon the situation.

Officials said repeated security audits have been conducted by police mainly the SOG teams for all high-rise buildings including Shopping Malls, cinema halls, security installations, Government offices and other places to prevent the terror attacks and if at all the terrorists manage to strike the immediate action to neutralize them.

“A detailed roadmap has been drafted,” they said.
There have been series of terror attacks this year targeting security forces in Kathua, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda, Jammu, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch districts in which a number of bravehearts have sacrificed their lives. Many terrorists have also been killed in the operations.
Last month, three Pakistani terrorists were killed in Khour sector of Akhnoor in Jammu district. They had reportedly infiltrated from the Line of Control (LoC) to cause a major terror attack in the City but were eliminated by the alert Army personnel.
