Bengaluru: India is all set to host the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup at the iconic IGI Stadium in New Delhi from January 13 to 19, marking a watershed moment for traditional sports.
In a significant development, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed its partnership with the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), pledging its full support to the event.
In a formal statement to KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal, IOA President Dr PT Usha reiterated the association’s commitment to promoting indigenous sports like Kho Kho. The IOA’s backing aims to bolster the event’s global visibility and ensure its resounding success.
Usha remarked, “We recognise the importance of this event in celebrating our cultural heritage and promoting traditional sports. Our collaboration with the Kho Kho Federation of India underscores our commitment to fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and creating an enduring legacy for Kho Kho on the global stage.”
Expressing gratitude, KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal said, “The IOA’s support is a transformative milestone for Kho Kho. Hosting the inaugural World Cup is a matter of pride for India, and this partnership strengthens our mission to elevate Kho Kho to international prominence.”
The tournament will see 24 teams from six continents competing in both men’s and women’s categories. Prominent nations participating include India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, England, Germany, Brazil, and Australia, reflecting the sport’s growing global appeal.
This historic event is expected to catapult Kho Kho into the international sports arena, inspiring athletes and fans worldwide. The World Cup, with the IOA’s support, aims to create a lasting legacy, promoting the sport’s growth both in India and across the globe.
