New Delhi – In a solemn tribute at the National War Memorial, Smt. Prem Devi, wife of Sepoy (MT) Prabhu Lal Chaudhary, remembered her husband’s supreme sacrifice. Sepoy Chaudhary, of 5071 ASC Battalion, lost his life in 2013 while courageously performing Advance Winter Stocking duty, transporting essential supplies from Kargil to Leh. Braving harsh terrain and severe weather, he maintained critical communication and supply lines for troops stationed in some of the most treacherous regions of the country. Tragically, he lost his life in a landslide, a peril faced by those undertaking such perilous duties in service to the nation.
For his family, Sepoy Chaudhary’s sacrifice left an indelible mark, especially as they awaited his return for Diwali celebrations. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the countless soldiers who, despite the personal risks, continue to serve with devotion and love for their country.
Standing amidst the serene ambiance of the National War Memorial, Smt. Prem Devi laid a wreath, embodying resilience and honor. Her tribute underscores the silent bravery of the families of the fallen who continue to uphold the spirit of sacrifice and service. The memorial, a testament to the valor of Indian soldiers, echoed with gratitude and reverence, honoring those who have given everything for the nation.
Featuring a Central Obelisk surrounded by a circular colonnade and landscaped gardens, the memorial honours over 26,000 soldiers who have sacrificed their lives since Independence. Their names inscribed on the walls ensure their memories are forever etched in the nation’s heart, symbolizing our collective gratitude and obligation to remember those who defended our freedom.
Each year, the memorial plays a vital role during national observances such as Republic Day and Kargil Vijay Diwas. Wreath-laying ceremonies attended by the President, Prime Minister, and military leaders reflect the nation’s respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, evoking deep patriotism and collective remembrance.
