Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir – In a poignant ceremony held today at Tehsil Mandi in District Poonch, the Retired Police Personnel Organisation (RPPO) convened a press conference to honor the bravery and sacrifice of martyred police personnel on Police Commemoration Day. This annual observance serves as a solemn reminder of the dedication displayed by law enforcement officers who have selflessly laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The event was marked by heartfelt tributes to fallen heroes, with RPPO leaders, including Shabir Ahmed, Ajbar Malik, and Naiz Ahmed, emphasizing the critical importance of remembering those who have served valiantly. “Today, we gather to pay homage to our brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety and security,” Ahmed stated. His words resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom were family members of deceased officers. The emotional atmosphere underscored the profound loss experienced by families and communities, as stories of courage and resilience were shared.
During the ceremony, the RPPO leaders not only paid tribute to the martyrs but also took the opportunity to present several key demands aimed at improving the welfare of retired police personnel. These requests are crucial for enhancing living conditions and ensuring that those who dedicated their lives to public service receive the recognition and support they deserve.
One of the foremost issues raised was the Rationalization of Pension Services. The RPPO called for a comprehensive review of pension benefits to ensure that retired officers receive fair and adequate compensation. “Many retired personnel struggle to make ends meet on insufficient pensions,” Ahmed remarked. “It is imperative that we establish a system that recognizes their contributions and provides them with financial security in their retirement years.” This demand highlights the urgent need for a reassessment of pension structures to better support those who have dedicated their lives to maintaining law and order.
Another significant demand was for Quarters for Retired Personnel. The RPPO proposed the establishment of dedicated housing facilities in Jammu and Srinagar specifically for retired police staff. “After a lifetime of service, our officers should not have to worry about housing,” Ajbar Malik emphasized. “Providing them with suitable accommodations will greatly alleviate their concerns and allow them to enjoy their retirement years with dignity.” This initiative aims to ensure that retired officers can live comfortably without the stress of housing insecurity.
Additionally, the RPPO highlighted the need for an Employment Quota for Children of retired police personnel in government services. This initiative aims to provide job opportunities for the children of those who have served in law enforcement, recognizing the sacrifices made by entire families. “Our officers put their lives on the line, and it is only fair that we extend support to their families,” Naiz Ahmed stated. “Implementing a quota will not only honor their legacy but also provide a pathway for their children to secure stable employment.” This demand reflects a commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices made by police families are acknowledged and rewarded.
The press conference concluded with a collective pledge from attendees to actively advocate for these demands. The RPPO plans to engage with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that these issues are addressed promptly.
As Police Commemoration Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel, it also highlights the ongoing need for support and recognition for those who have served. The RPPO’s efforts to improve the welfare of retired police personnel are vital steps toward ensuring that their contributions are honored not just in words but through meaningful actions. In a world where public safety often comes at a high cost, it is crucial that we continue to support those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others. The demands put forth today reflect a commitment to improving the lives of retired police personnel and ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
