Poonch, 28 September 2024 – An impactful awareness program was held at Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian, Poonch, to commemorate World Heart Day. The event, aimed at promoting heart health among students and staff, was organized under the guidance and supervision of Principal Anwar Khan.
The program’s keynote speaker, Zaki ur Rehman, used a detailed PowerPoint presentation to engage the audience. Through visually compelling slides, he explained the importance of maintaining a healthy heart. The presentation included information on essential habits for heart health, such as maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and managing stress. He highlighted the need for early detection of cardiovascular issues and emphasized the significance of regular check-ups and preventive care.
Principal Anwar Khan addressed the gathering and spoke about the global importance of World Heart Day, initiated by the World Heart Federation. He shared that the 2024 campaign is running under the theme Use Heart for Action, encouraging individuals to take personal responsibility for heart health while urging national leaders to prioritize cardiovascular health. “This campaign is dedicated to motivating every country to develop or support national cardiovascular health action plans,” Principal Khan remarked, emphasizing the global and local relevance of the initiative.
Additionally, Science Teacher Jaipal Singh Sudan contributed valuable insights during the interactive session, emphasizing the role of scientific understanding in heart health. He stressed the importance of awareness about common cardiovascular diseases, their causes, and how lifestyle changes can reduce the risk. Mohd Hayat Sheikh and Nahida Iqbal Khan, faculty members, also interacted with the students, discussing how young individuals can adopt healthy habits early on.
The event, held in the school’s ICT Lab, saw the active participation of 75 students and 15 faculty members, who engaged in a discussion on personal strategies for maintaining heart health. The students showed great enthusiasm, asking questions and taking notes on how to implement these strategies in their daily lives.
The program concluded with a pledge taken by the participants to promote heart health awareness in their families and communities, ensuring that the message of World Heart Day reaches beyond the school premises.
This initiative reflects the school’s commitment to fostering a healthy, informed generation ready to take proactive steps toward well-being.
