September 26, 2024, at 11 am, the Anhad Community Centre in Khumriyal, Kupwara, welcomed renowned Indian filmmaker, cinematographer, and writer Sahir Raza for an informal interaction with local multimedia professionals.
Sahir Raza, a multifaceted creative force, has directed numerous web series and television shows for prominent platforms such as ALTT, Jio Cinema, SonyLIV, Voot, Lions Gate, Amazon Prime Video, Zee 5, MX Player and BBC. Holding a Master’s degree in Filmmaking from EICAR, Paris, France, Raza has had an illustrious career spanning various roles.
The program commenced with Azad Naqshbandi and Shabnam Hashmi extending a warm welcome to the participants. Shahid Bhatt then engaged Sahir Raza in a captivating conversation, delving into his journey and inspirations.
Raza shared his passion for storytelling through cinema, recounting his beginnings as a cinematographer in Bollywood. He spoke of his experiences working on Bengali, Telugu, and Bollywood films, as well as advertisements and music videos. In 2014, Raza transitioned to directing, initially facing challenges but ultimately finding success with his science fiction web series, Aisha – My Virtual Girlfriend.
Since then, Raza has directed over 10 web series, including notable titles such as Illegal – Justice Out of Order, Hum Tum & Them, Feels Like Home, The Married Woman, Highway Love. (For details see – https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?role=nm3663084&job_type=cinematographer) .
During the question-and-answer session, Raza elaborated on the the Three-Act Documentary Structure. He explained- Each Act contains two essential plot points: Act One includes the Opening and the Inciting Incident. Act Two comprises the First Act Break and the Midpoint. Act Three involves the Second Act Break and the Resolution/Climax.
Raza generously offered advice to aspiring multimedia professionals, sharing insights on establishing a production house and necessary equipment. At the request of the attendees, he graciously agreed to return for a two-day workshop in the near future.
This enriching interaction provided valuable opportunities for local talent to learn from Raza’s extensive experience and expertise.
