Police recovers Illicit timber in Sopore, 2 arrested

September 14:“`Police in Sopore have recovered illicit timber in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo and arrested two persons involved in the commission of crime.

A police party of Police Station Tarzoo intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no. JK05E-1283 at Ningli in which two persons were on board. They have been identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Wani son of Mohammad Abdullah Wani resident of Shercolony and Hilal Ahmad Sofi son of Late Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi resident of Alibagh Tarzoo. During search, illicit timber (that had been cut down from Compartment No. 3 of the forest area in Ningli) was recovered from the said vehicle. Both the accused persons were arrested, besides illicit timber and the vehicle used in the commission of crime were also seized on the spot.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 92/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo and investigation has been set into motion.

The police will continue its drive against timber smugglers to protect the environment and ensure the preservation of our natural resources. This action reaffirms our commitment to keeping our society free of crime and taking strict action against those involved in criminal activities.“`
