KARNAH: In Karnah, the political scene is lively as voting progresses in the third phase of the elections. While the API and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Azad Party have yet to declare candidates for the Karnah Assembly Constituency, the major parties have already announced theirs and started election campaigns to gather support.

The National Conference has opted for a change this time, fielding former MLC Javed Mirchal instead of former MLA Kafeelur Rehman. Mirchal, who had been a part of his party, recently joined the National Conference and secured the ticket. On the other hand, former MLA Karnah Advocate Raja Manzoor is running on his party’s ticket. The People’s Conference has introduced a new face, Dr. Naseer Ahmed Awan, a well-known physician and former Medical College Srinagar professor, as their candidate.

Muhammad Idris Karnahi is representing the BJP. A former teacher, he recently resigned from his position to officially launch his political campaign for the BJP. Although the PDP did not nominate a candidate from Karna, the party has fielded Firdous Ahmad Mir for the Karna Assembly Constituency. Mir, a former BDC member, has been chosen to contest for the party.

Polling in Karnah will take place during the last phase, with over 60,000 voters casting their ballots on October 1. Following the recent delimitation, areas such as Sadhana Par have been added to the Karnah Assembly Constituency, including regions like Gund Zeena, Rishi, Khanbul, Manchhatar, Panzgam, and others. Previously part of Karnah, the area has now been moved to the Terhgam Assembly Constituency. A total of 70 polling stations have been set up in Karnah.

As election day approaches, political maneuvering intensifies, with some leaders adopting tactics to draw support. It remains to be seen who will emerge victorious in the Karnah Assembly Constituency.
