Karnah : The solid waste problem in Karnah has reached a critical point, raising alarm over the spread of foul odors and potential health risks. Once pristine, the Qazi Nag and Batah Muji streams have now been turned into dumping grounds, posing a significant threat to both the environment and public health.

The Department of Rural Development had hired a contractor to manage waste collection from homes and markets. Despite being responsible for safely disposing of waste, the contractor ceased operations after collecting payments from several households and shopkeepers, leaving the community in disarray.

Local residents report that while the contractor initially began waste collection, he soon abandoned the task, leading to the accumulation of garbage piles throughout the area. Concerned about the deteriorating situation, the local community is urgently calling for the authorities to take immediate action.

Irshad Ahmad Baba, President of Pharmacy and Drug Stores in Karnah, voiced his concerns while speaking to our correspondent stating, “We are facing numerous problems, but the administration shows little interest. Our area is governed by a Panchayat system instead of a municipality. We request the government to establish a municipality here so that these issues can be resolved.”

Residents are not only demanding an immediate cleanup but also strict legal action against the negligent contractor. They also urge the authorities to restore the Qazi Nag and Batah Muji streams to their original, clean state, ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the community.
