A Police team from Bijbehara Police Station set up a checkpoint at Doudnard Waghama near the under-construction bridge and intercepted a Santro vehicle bearing registration number JK13C-0941. During the search, the Police recovered approximately 95.830 Kgs of Poppy straw from the vehicle. The driver, identified as Umer Ismail Dass, son of Mohd Ismail Dass of Waghama Bijbehara, was arrested on the spot. Both the contraband and the vehicle used in the crime have been seized.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Bijbehara Police Station, and the investigation is underway.

Drug dealings in Anantnag District have put our community at risk of harm and criminalization. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers aim to end this menace of drug addiction. We hope this reassures community members and encourages them to come forward with any information about drug peddling in their neighborhoods.
