Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian, in collaboration with the J&K Excise Department, organized a comprehensive programme to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event witnessed the participation of 185 students and 22 staff members.
The programme included a symposium, a short play, and a 2-kilometer rally. During the seminar, students Nayeema Bhat, Aafreen Akhter, Nusrat Shakeel, and Jameel Ahmed shared their perspectives on the detrimental effects of drug abuse on health, academics, and society. Their insightful presentations underscored the urgency of combating this menace.
Imran Khan, a teacher at the school, adeptly conducted the proceedings. The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking short play performed by Pakiza Parveen, Tania Sajjad, Zahoora Begum, and their team. The play vividly depicted the tactics employed by drug peddlers to lure young students and illustrated effective rehabilitation methods for those affected.
Mohd Arif, the Excise Inspector of Poonch, delivered an informative PowerPoint presentation that elucidated the aims and objectives of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He emphasized the critical role of awareness and education in tackling drug abuse.
Anwar Khan, Principal of Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian, addressed the gathering, providing a comprehensive overview of the background and purpose of the International Day Against Drug Abuse. He highlighted the multifaceted impacts of drug use, including health, social, economic, and psychological consequences, stressing the importance of collective action in eradicating this issue.
The symposium and skit participants were recognized for their efforts with trophies and certificates, courtesy of the Excise Department. The event concluded with a rally from Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian to Girls Middle School Sawjian, where 256 students had gathered. The rally, led by Anwar Khan and Mohd Arif, featured banners and placards promoting the theme of the day.
Upon reaching the Girls Middle School, both Anwar Khan and Mohd Arif addressed the assembled students, reiterating the importance of staying vigilant against drug abuse. Participants, including Jagan Deep Singh, Zaki ur Rehman, Gurvinder Singh, Mohd Shafi, and Jyoti Jamwal, were provided with refreshments by the Excise Department.
The programme culminated with a collective pledge to combat the drug menace, fostering a sense of responsibility and commitment among the students and staff to create a drug-free community.
