Narco-Terror Module Busted in Karnah, Kupwara

Karnah, June 15: In a significant operation, law enforcement authorities have dismantled a narco-terror module in Karnah, Kupwara, resulting in the seizure of contraband alongside arms and ammunition, a police spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.

“Kupwara Police is committed to zero terror policy,” the police spokesman said, adding, “a total of three persons were arrested and 500 grams of heroin, 5 kilogram of explosives, 3 pistols, 76 rounds, 6 pistol magazines recovered.”

Acting on intelligence regarding attempts to peddle heroin, a joint operation conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army in Karnah led to the apprehension of two individuals identified as Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh and Tariq Ahmad Malik. The suspects, residents of Khawarpara Karnah and Baghbella respectively, were found in possession of approximately 500 grams of heroin.

Further investigation unveiled the involvement of Parvez Ahmed Pathan from Sadhpura, who was promptly detained in a collaborative raid by the JKP and Army. From Pathan’s possession, authorities recovered three pistols, along with 76 pistol rounds, 6 pistol magazines, and an estimated 5 kilograms of suspected explosives.

FIR NO : 33/2024 Under Section 7/25 indian Armed Act 28/21-29 NDPS Act 13/18/39 UAP Act PS Karnah has been lodged in connection with the case, with ongoing interrogations and inquiries underway, according to the police spokesperson.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, the spokesperson reiterated the commitment of the Kupwara Police to maintaining security and combating illicit activities. A total of three arrests were made in the operation, yielding a substantial seizure of 500 grams of heroin, 5 kilograms of explosives, three pistols, 76 rounds, and six pistol magazines.

The successful operation underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in thwarting threats to public safety and upholding the rule of law in the region.
