Karnah, Kupwara – On June 10 and 11, 2024, the two-day Tangdhar Cultural Festival was held near Government Degree College, Kandi, in Karnah Tehsil of Kupwara district. Organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with the civil administration, this event aimed to highlight the unique culture and rich heritage of Karnah.
The festival was inaugurated on June 10, 2024, by the GOC of the 28 Infantry Division. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a captivating performance of the local Gatka dance. The festival featured various cultural performances, including music, poetry recitations, and folk songs, showcasing the Pahari and Gujri cultures by local artists.
During the festival, various stalls displayed local cuisines, clothing, and artifacts. The stalls featured renowned red rice, rajma, and other special agricultural products of Karnah. The event also included various rides, food, and game stalls for children.
Children from local schools participated in the event, taking part in competitions such as dance, skits, and painting. The outstanding performances by school children highlighted the immense talent in Karnah.
Additionally, a local community-hosted Pahari lunch was organized to promote local cuisines. The festival also included a free medical health check-up camp, PMKVY stalls, and a stall by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology to raise awareness about horticulture and floriculture.
A cultural rally, themed ‘Unity in Diversity,’ was a major highlight of the festival. People of all ages participated, showcasing the local attire of Karnah. The rally also saw active participation from local veterans.
The festival concluded with the distribution of prizes and congratulations to the organizers, celebrating the cultural heritage and diversity of Karnah in a grand manner.
