Poonch, May 18: In a delightful and unexpected turn of events, commuters at Poonch’s bustling bus stand were treated to a vibrant cultural program organized by the Department of School Education under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative. The surprise event, held today, transformed the routine commute into a celebration of India’s democracy, showcasing the fervor and spirit of elections.
At precisely 10 AM, a group of students appeared seemingly out of nowhere, instantly capturing the attention of passersby. Dressed in traditional attire representing the rich and diverse culture of India, the students began an enthusiastic performance, their energy and joy infusing the atmosphere with excitement.
The cultural program was meticulously planned by Chief Education Officer Poonch, Shri Bishamber Dass, who also serves as the Nodal Officer of the SVEEP initiative. The event highlighted the importance of elections in the world’s largest democracy through a series of dances, songs, and Nukkad Nataks, depicting the electoral process as a grand festival and emphasizing the significance of every citizen’s vote.
The vibrant performances included folk dances like Punjabi Bhangra and patriotic songs that resonated deeply with the audience. During the performances, students distributed pamphlets related to the General Elections among the passersby, reinforcing the message that every vote counts and is crucial for the democratic process.
Officials from the Department of School Education and the District Election Cell expressed their satisfaction with the event’s success. “This cultural program under SVEEP is our way of engaging the community and reminding everyone of the importance of participating in elections. Celebrating democracy in such a lively manner helps reinforce the message that voting is both a right and a festival for every Indian,” stated Bishamber Dass, Nodal Officer SVEEP.
The surprise cultural program not only entertained but also educated the public, leaving a lasting impression about the significance of their electoral participation.
