Bandipora:- Forest protection force officials on Thursday seized illicit forest timber from a vehicle during a naka checking in Bathoo area of Bandipora district.

Deputy director Forest protection forces Aijaz Ahmed has informed us that during naka we have seized vehicle along with timber and arrested two persons.

He said that we have handed over two persons to police and in this connection cognizance under relevant sections of law has been taken.

“Vehicles used in the commission of crime also seized, further investigation taken up”, he said.

These accused have allegedly been engaged in the illegal felling of forest timber, which they were then selling at inflated rates, exacerbating the threat to the fragile ecosystem of the region,” the official said, adding that during the well-coordinated operation, law enforcement officers successfully seized 17 feet of forest timber from the possession of the smugglers.
