TEETWAL, KARNAH: The Teetwal border event marked the hoisting of a monumental tricolor, standing tall at 104 meters, orchestrated by the army. This significant occasion unfolded in Karnah, and General Rajeev Gao, serving as the chief guest, played a pivotal role in emphasizing the profound impact the towering flag would have on the morale of the nation’s citizens and youth. Meanwhile, GOC 28 Infantry Major General Girish Kalia Commander Shakti Vijay Burgrade NK Das, DIG Police North Kashmir Zone Vivek Gupta, DIG BSF, social worker from Mumbai Uma Makkai, SDM Karna Dr. Gulzar Ahmed Rather, former MLA Karnah Kafeelur Rehman, Raja Manzoor, ex-military personnel, bar association, panchayat members, civil society members were also present there. On this occasion, a cultural and patriotic event was held, during which the children demonstrated their art and received gifts from the people present there. Although the ritual of hoisting the flag was celebrated in Teetwal on this side of the border and was seen by the people of Jalhana village across the border.
General Gao, in his address, underscored the symbolism inherent in the towering flag on the Teetwal border. He spoke passionately about how it would serve as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made for the country, evoking a sense of pride among the people. The visual spectacle of the flag reaching for the skies was portrayed as a representation of the values of brotherhood, peace, and harmony that the tricolor embodies.
In addressing concerns about the youth falling victim to substance abuse, General Gao assured the community that the military would actively play a crucial role in steering the younger generation away from such influences. Additionally, he made commitments to promote border tourism and extend support across various sectors, with a specific emphasis on education.The event itself encompassed more than the flag-raising ceremony. A cultural and patriotic program was organized, providing a platform for children to showcase their talents. This added a vibrant and celebratory dimension to the occasion. While the flag-raising tradition was observed on the Teetwal side of the border, it was also visible to residents of Jalhana village on the opposite side.
Other notable figures, including GOC 28 Infantry Major General Girish Kalia, took part in the event. Recognition was given to individuals with exceptional patriotic fervor. The proceedings further included the inauguration of the Tricolor Cup 2023 cricket tournament, a sporting event designed to last 23 days with participation from over 30 teams.
The Teetwal border has witnessed a surge in tourist activity over the past two years, attracting visitors from various parts of the country. The construction of the Sharda Devi temple has added to the area’s historical and cultural significance. As part of the efforts to cater to tourists, the army inaugurated a cafe in Teetwal during this event, providing a welcoming space for visitors to enjoy their preferred dishes. This comprehensive celebration captured the essence of national pride, cultural richness, and a commitment to the well-being and development of the region.
