SRINAGAR, Nov.06, 2023. A five day theatre festival organised by National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory Company in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages was inaugurated at Tagore Hall today. A renowned Cine personality and Chairperson of NSD Padmashri Paresh Rawal ji delivered a virtual inaugural speech on the occasion. It was for the first time that NSD Repertory company is performing its plays at Srinagar.
The festival was presided over by Director NSD. Shri Chittranjan Tripathy Administrative Secretary, Department of Culture Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah IAS, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & languages was the guest of honour, Renowned Cultural personality Mr. Bashir Dada was the special Guest. The ceremony was co-hosted by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages’s Incharge Mr. Mirza Farooq Ahmad and vote of thanks delivered by Shri. Ramesh Singh, Chief of the Repertory Company.
Theatre dignitaries who were present on the occasion include Mohammad Amin Bhat, Nisar Naseem, Mushtaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Bhawani Bashir Yasir, Shabir Mujahid, Rashid Barqi, Javed Gilani, Shafiq Qureshi, Reshi Rashid and others. The festival was attended by a large group of audience.
The play “Laila Majunun”, written by Ismail Chunara and directed by the living legend of Indian Theatre, Padma Shri Prof Ram Gopal Bajaj, was showcased in the Inaugural ceremony. On 7th Nov.2023 at 3pm Asif Ali’s KHOOB LADI MARDAANI SUBHADRA KI ZUBANI directed by Bharti Sharma will be showcased On 8th Nov.2023 at 3pm Vijaydan’s Detha’s MAI RI MAIN KA SE KAHUN directed by Ajay Kumar will be showcased. On 9th Nov.2023 at 3pm Dharamvir Bharati’s ANDHA YOG directed by Prof. Ram Gopal Bajaj. On 10th Nov.2023 at 3pm Ajay Shukla’s TAJ MAHAL KA TENDER directed by Chittranjan Tripathy who happens to be the Director of NSD.
The Repertory Company of NSD has been providing a platform to the pass out’s from NSD and from other Theatre Schools in their academic interest and to perform plays professionally. The NSD Repertory Company will enter into its 60th year successfully in 2024.
The theatre enthusiasts, Students, and gatherings can be making it an excellent choice for families and friends looking for a unique experience. All the plays will be staged daily till 10th Nov.2023 at Tagore Hall, Srinagar from 3.00pm.
