DDC Ganderbal presides over Awareness program on Handloom Reservation Act, 1985

GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 30: An awareness program on Handloom reservation Act, 1985 was today organized at Town hall, Ganderbal by Weavers Service Centre Srinagar sponsored by Development Commissioner Handlooms, Ministry Of Textiles, Govt. of India.

The awareness programme was presided over by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ganderbal, Shyambir along with Assistant Director Handloom & Handicrafts Ganderbal, District Officer of KVIB Ganderbal and Assistant Director Weavers Service Centre Srinagar.

The awareness program witnessed active participation of weavers and artisans of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the awareness program has been held under Atmanirbar Ganderbal with the purpose to reach out to the artisans and weavers to raise awareness regarding the schemes of the government. He appealed to the weavers to be in touch with the department to get the benefits of different schemes run by the UT and Centre Handloom Department.

The DDC maintained that various handmade products of Kashmir valley like Pashmina shawls, Kani shawls, Willow Wicker craft, etc. have high demand in the market and urged them to understand their responsibilities and all need to work together to make authentic products.

He appealed to all to participate in the main function of UT Foundation Day to be held at Qamaria ground on October 31 to showcase their products.

During the program, Assistant Director Handloom & Handicrafts department Ganderbal, Zahid Rashid deliberated about different Handloom schemes. He said that the primary objective of the event was to make local artisans and weavers aware about the government schemes and initiatives related to Handicraft and Handlooms.

Senior officer NHDC, Balendra Singh provided awareness to the weavers about supply of yarn under RMSS (Raw Material Supply Scheme) and e-Dagha Scheme.

District Officer KVIB Ganderbal also provided awareness about different beneficial schemes available for the weavers and artisans.

Assistant Director Weavers Service Centre Srinagar, Tahir Ahmad Hakim said that concerted efforts are being made to make principal stakeholders aware about handloom reservation Act 1985 and other central schemes along with marketing benefits. He also appealed to the interested, uncovered weavers to register with the department to avail the benefits of schemes.
