Kupwara, Sep 25, Panic gripped Bahadurkote village of Karnah in Kupwara district after leopards entered the human habitat, attacked a herd in a goat-Shelter belonging to one Mohammad Ismail Pathan S/O Sharief-u- Allah Pathan during the intervening night of Sep 24 and 25, resulting into killing of 4 goats on the spot and several are missing.
“The leopards who had descended from the nearby area, fled from the scene after killing the goats” the locals said adding that the attack has caused the huge loss to the villager whose only income was livestock rearing.
According to the villagers, a couple of
leopards are on prowl in the Bahadurkote and adjoining Ibkote, Riyala and Murchanee hamlets for the last two weeks and killing the livestock.
“The officials of Sheep Husbandry Department today visited the village and conducted the postmortem of the killed goats.
Meanwhile locals of the area have urged wild Life authorities to install the cages in the area and control the leopards at an earliest, So that livestock and human lives are saved from leopard attacks.
