DC inaugurates Plantation drive at GDC Samba

A plantation drive was organised in the campus of Government Degree College, Samba in collaboration with Lions Club, Samba and Basantar Eco Club of the college wherein more than 400 saplings and trees of both ornamental and indigenous varieties were planted.

The objective of planting saplings was to connect the younger generation with nature and motivate them to keep environment clean and green and ameliorate climate change also conserve water.

Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling.

The DC spoke about the importance of tree plantation to combat many environmental issues and encouraged spreading awareness about the necessity of tree plantations and providing all assistance to public in planting trees. He added that the District Administration is commemorating Independence Day Celebrations under ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ by planting 75 trees in every village as a tribute to our Martyrs.

SSP Samba, Benam Tosh emphasized upon the importance of trees for the preservation of environment and to keep a check on soil erosion. DFO Samba, Som Nath Khajuria facilitated the programme by providing a range of different species of plants.

Principal GDC Samba, Dr Twinkle Suri said that the plantation drive is a positive ecofriendly initiative towards celebrating the Independence month under ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ by promoting green and clean campus living, along with stimulating the young minds towards environmental conservation.

Faculty members and prominent members of Lions Club Samba Adv. Vijay Gupta President Lions Club, Amardeep Singh Secretary, Verinder Slathia, Vice President, Rohit Pargal, Cashier, Amit Gupta PRO, Uday Pal, CA Co Chairman, Inder Singh, Rakesh Singh and Rajneesh Pargal were also present on the occasion. The whole event was organised by Prof. Vijay Chandan, Convener Basantar Eco Club.
