Deputy Commissioner Poonch reviews performance of POSHAN (ICDS) Department

District Development Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary today reviewed the performance of POSHAN (ICDS) Department at a meeting held today.

The meeting was attended by District Programme Officer, Khalid Wafa; Assistant Development Commissioner, Abid Hussain Shah; CDPO Haveli, Taj-un-Nisa; CDPO Mandi, Adil Shabir; CDPO Buffliaz, Mohd Nisar, CDPO Mendhar, Abdul Aziz and all supervisors, besides contractors and other Officials.

A detailed review of ICDS schemes was conducted, including supplementary nutrition, early childhood care and education, health checkup, health and nutrition education POSHAN vatika, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna (PMMVY)and construction of anganwadi buildings under MGNREGA convergence, POSHAN tracker etc.

The meeting focused on the improvement of health and nutrition status of children of 0-6 year age with special emphasis on addressing the problem of anemia, stunting, underweight, SAM, and MAM.

The Deputy Commissioner passed instructions to launch a special drive and conduct a survey in convergence with the health department to identify the children under six year who are suffering from anemia by conducting HB tests in the district. The anemia children are required to be given supplements and proper nutrition as per SOP with the consultation of the health department. Malnutrition related all ailments are serious which affect the physical as well as mental development of a child.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Officers and officials to ensure the saturation under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna(PMMVY) by cross checking the data of pregnant and lactating mothers available with the health department so that all eligible women are provided benefits of the scheme.

The Deputy Commissioner further emphasized on identifying and covering all left out children under the Indradhanush campaign. The supervisors were asked to extend cooperation to the health department in identifying the children who have not been vaccinated or left out due to any reason.

The CDPOs were asked to conduct the joint verification for shifting of Anganwadi centers to nearby schools wherever feasible.

The Deputy Commissioner passed direction to ACD Poonch to speed up the work of construction of all 59 Anganwadi buildings undertaken under MGNREGA convergence scheme and complete the same in the current financial year.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Officers to work with missionary spirit and review the implementation of all ICDS schemes on a regular basis with the main focus on prevention and reduction of anemia, stunting, wasting, SAM, MAM among children and anemia among pregnant women and lactating mothers.
