Mission Shakti Kishtwar organises awareness programme

The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department, on Tuesday organised a mega awareness programme as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” here at AWC Hunjala, Kishtwar.

The awareness programme aimed to enlighten the attendees about different women-centric schemes and initiatives that can empower and uplift women in the region.

The DHEW members conducted insightful discussions on a range of schemes, including the Marriage Assistance Scheme, Tejaswini – Women Entrepreneurship Programme, Women Development Corporation, PMEGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme), BBBP (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao), Ladli Beti, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana), JSY (Janani Suraksha Yojana), Widow pension, One Stop Centre (OSC), Women Helpline 181, and many others.

The participants were engaged in dialogue regarding the pivotal role of women in society, emphasizing their right to live free from violence and discrimination, access the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, receive education, achieve financial independence, and earn equal wages. Special emphasis was placed on discussing the Social Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS), which provides benefits to economically disadvantaged girls of marriageable age belonging to families holding either Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Priority Household (PHH) ration cards.

At the end of the programme the grievances of the women were noted and several beneficiaries helped to get linked with SMAS, RSETI and Pension Schemes etc.
