Forest deptt employee injured in militant attack in Pulwama succumbs

Srinagar, 19 July: A forest department employee who along with another official, was injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening.

Reports reaching Asian News Hub (ANH) said that two employees of forest department identified as Jahangir Ahmad Chichi, a resident of Chadoora and Imran Yousuf Wani, a resident of Chrar-i-Shareef noticed suspicious activity at Sonabanjar forest area near Bagandar Bridge while patrolling during the night.

As they went near to inspect, unknown persons fired at the employees, injuring them. Both the injured were taken to CHC Pakherpora for treatment, where from Imran Yousuf was later shifted to SMHS Hospital for specialised treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries this evening.

Soon after the incident, the whole area was cordoned off by Police, Army, and CAPFs, and an intensive search operation was launched.

During the search of the scene of crime, two empty fired cartridges of Ak-47 ammunition and one bullet head were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile police have registered a case regarding the incident, under FIR No. 79/2023 under sections 16,20 UAP ( Act) , 307 IPC and 7/ 27 IA Act got registered in PS Rajpora, and investigation has been initiated, police said in a statement.
