Sports activities for Tribals and elderly People were organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday. Director of the Department Subash C Chibber presided over the function organised in this connection. In his speech, he appreciated District Youth Services and Sports Office Ganderbal for organizing such amazing sports events for the tribal communities and Golden Age/elderly people of the district. He expressed his good wishes and appreciation with the participating tribal kids and Golden age People for showcasing their dedication towards sports activities and also highlighted the importance of sports activities for sound health. He assured that the Department would continue it’s efforts of promoting sports talent and organise activities of play and recreation for tribal population at the grass roots level.
Director Sports later on visited the proposed site of Zonal Playfield at Baghi Surfraw. District Development Council (DDC) Member Noorani Ahmad along with Various heads of the Institutions, and other senior officers and officials of the Department besides scores of people from different areas of the District were also present in the event. On this occasion, President Gujar Mahasaba Highlighted the importance of sports activities especially for these tribal people and thanked the Department of YSS for providing this maiden opportunity to them at such a large scale.
Competitions of Tug of War for Golden age people and a match of Volleyball was conducted in presence of the Chief Guest. Various traditional cultural items of the tribal population were witnessed by Chief Guest & other guests along with hundreds of spectators present at the venue. More than 300 school children took part in the event. Earlier DYSSO Ganderbal welcomed the Chief Guest and all the participants for being part of mega Tribal Sports event. The Event culminated with the presentation ceremony where Chief Guest along with DYSSO Ganderbal and senior Tribal Members Distributed Trophies among the Meritorious Tribal Students.
Presenting the Vote of Thanks, DYSSO Ganderbal Shafkat Iqbal thanked the Chief Guest & other Guests for gracing the occasion by sparing their valuable time for this tribal event at the far-flung area of the District and also thanked his supporting staff for making such an event successful by their dedicated approach and congratulated the participating students for making the event successful.
