Pakistan has been witnessing large scale Arson and political unrest since Tuesday, 09 May 2023. Arrest of Pakistan Tahrik- e-Insaf party leader Imran Khan sparked the protest by his party supporters and it spread like jungle fire in the country. Imran, cricketer turned politician, has been Prime Minister of Pakistan for about four years and happens to be the fourth Prime Minister of Pakistan to be arrested. Imran Khan had made Lahore as his current base and was running his political activities from there. He was wanted in AI Qadri University case in Islamabad High Court. Imran Khan, along with his wife, are trustees of the University which has had only 32 students admitted in last six years. Before proceeding to Islamabad High Court, he released a video challenging the Army authorities that he was not afraid of anything. Later on, after his arrival at the Islamabad High Court premises; he was arrested by Pakistan Rangers and taken to prison. This incident sparked protests thought out Pakistan by supporters of Pakistan Tahrik- e-Insaf party.  Pakistani Army establishments, officer’s messes and residences of high-ranking army officials have been attacked and vandalised by civilian mobs. Skirmishes between police and the protesting mob have been reported from number of places and shootouts have occurred at few places as well. There is a lot of discontent in the Pakistani people towards the Pakistani Army and the ruling coalition. Pakistan is facing financial crisis and food shortage like never seen before. Patience of its citizens has run out and they are blaming the malafide intent and illegal activities of their army for the present scenario. Pakistan is paying the price of what it has been doing to other countries. Not only that, it has been running a regime of suppression in Balochistan and PoK as well. There has been no social justice, no rule of law, large scale atrocities and human right violation in Balochistan and PoK. Pakistan has turned into an industry manufacturing terrorism. Radicalisation has been propagated by ISI and false narratives have been painted to poison the minds of innocent youth. It has supported, aided and funded terrorism in India. On going social and political unrest in Kashmir for more than three decades owes its genesis to the master minds of ISI. Peace has not been able to prevail in Afghanistan only due to nefarious activities of the ISI and Pakistani Army. However, the time has now arrived when eyes of the citizens of Pakistan have opened to this harsh reality and they have now have started questioning those in power, who have kept them deprived of basic facilities and underdeveloped for decades. Let us hope and pray that this protest of the common Pakistani people against their oppressive Army and Government prevails.
