KUPWARA, APRIL 26: Having completed 387 Amrit Sarovars (Highest number in UT of J&K ) during the financial year 2022-23, Frontier District Kupwara has emerged as the best district with the implementation of Prime Minister Narender Modi’s “Mission Amrit Sarovar”. The ” Mission Amrit Sarovar” was launched with a view to harvest and conserve water for future generations as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav. The objective of this mission was to construct at least 75 Amrit Sarovars in every district of the country to overcome the water crisis in rural areas. Frontier district Kupwara is topping in completion of a record number of Amrit Sarovars during financial year 2022-23 in UT of J&K.  “In Kupwara district 387 Amrit Sarovars have been completed. Out of them 304 Amrit Sarovars were executed under MGNREGA and 83 under UT capex. “Work on 73 Amrit Sarovars is under progress”, said Hilal Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commisioner Development(ACD) Kupwara.  JAN BHAGIDARI: People’s Participation has become a hallmark of Mission Amrit Sarovar at all levels as these works are carried out with co-operation of general public, User groups and PRIs.  SOCIAL GATHERING POINTS:Activities like flag hoisting on important dates like 26th Jan and 15th Aug and other Social, recreational,  and environmental activities are being carried on these water bodies(Amrit Sarovars),  Besides district administration is leveraging the participation of freedom fighters,  eldest members of Panchyats, and family members of freedom fighters on amritsarovar sites as these Amritsarovars are acting as social gathering points in the locality.  BOOSTING RURAL LIVELIHOOD AND WATER TOURISM : In Kupwara district completed Amritsarovars have become sources of generation of livelihood by using their water for different purposes like irrigation, Fishries, water tourism, duckery and Animal Husbandry. Amritsarovars(water bodies) have become hub of developmental and social activities in these Panchayats besides being vital asset to protect the fragile environment. People across Kupwara district have appreciated the role played by Distict Development Commisioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray for taking Kupwara district on top in implementation of Mission Amrit Sarovar.
