INDIA’S INVESTMENT IN KASHMIR’S FUTURE: A TRANSFORMATIVE JOURNEY

14/05/2025

‍The G20 summit is an annual gathering of the world’s 20 largest economies, where leaders come together to discuss pressing global issues. This year’s summit is set to take place in Kashmir, a region that has been a source of tension between India and Pakistan for decades. The choice of venue alone has sparked controversy, with both countries claiming ownership of the region. However, what’s even more significant is the potential impact this summit could have on the global economy and politics. With the ongoing trade war between the US and China, Brexit, and other geopolitical issues, the G20 summit in Kashmir is sure to be a hotbed of debate and discussion. The G20 is a group of 20 countries, including the European Union, that are responsible for over 80% of the world’s GDP. The purpose of the G20 summit is to bring together leaders from these countries to discuss issues affecting the global economy and to coordinate their policies. The G20 was established in 1999 in response to the financial crises of the late 1990s, and the first summit was held in 2008 in Washington DC. Since then, the summit has been held annually, with each host country setting the agenda and leading the discussions.   The G20 summit is a crucial event in the global economy and politics. As the world becomes more interconnected, the decisions made by these 20 countries have an impact on the rest of the world. The G20 summit provides an opportunity for these countries to work together to address issues facing the global economy, such as economic growth, trade, and financial stability. It also provides a platform for discussing geopolitical issues that affect the world, such as terrorism, climate change, and migration. The G20 summit is therefore an important forum for cooperation and coordination among the world’s largest economies. The G20 was created in 1999 as a response to the financial crises of the late 1990s. The summit was first held in 2008 in Washington DC, and since then, it has been held annually, with each host country setting the agenda and leading the discussions. The G20 has played an important role in responding to global economic challenges, such as the 2008 financial crisis and the ongoing trade war between the US and China. The summit has also addressed important global issues, such as climate change and migration.   Despite the winter season, the administration is making preparations for a “moment of pride” by fixing main roads and drainage systems, as well as by issuing directives for beautification measures like planting flowers in parks and painting walls. In response to the global economic crisis, the forum was elevated to the level of Heads of States. Trade, climate change, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, the environment, and a substantial chapter on corruption were added to the agenda. From an Indian perspective, the G20 Presidency also signifies the start of a 25-year transition from the country’s 75th anniversary of independence to a developed, prosperous, and inclusive society. There are interaction groups that bring together civil society, lawmakers, think tanks, women, young people, labourers, the corporate class, and researchers from G20 countries in addition to Sherpa Track, which is “managed by Sherpas of member countries.”   The Startup20 engagement group was established for the first time under the current G20 of India’s Presidency to recognise the role of startups in fostering innovation in light of the rapidly shifting global scenario. It includes representatives from Business20, Labour20, Parliment20, Science20, SAI20, Think20, and Urban20. Also, a new working group on disaster risk reduction was established to promote group cooperation in multidisciplinary research & best practise exchange. Green Development, Climate Financing, Accelerated, Inclusive & Resilient Growth, Technological Transformation & Digital Public Infrastructure, and Women Led Development are the other G20 goals at the moment. A number of measures were made, and the government at the national level enacted directives, in order to accomplish the intended aims through a series of prominent meetings held in various cities across the nation.     Together with other things, the government of India has asked for public feedback, recommendations, and opinions to engage people from all walks of life and get them involved at the grassroots level in efforts to make the world a better place. The outcomes of the G20 summit in Kashmir are likely to be closely watched by the world. The summit provides an opportunity for the leaders of the world’s largest economies to coordinate their policies and address pressing issues facing the global economy. The ongoing trade war between the US and China is likely to be a major topic of discussion, as well as the impact of Brexit on the global economy. The summit is also expected to address issues such as climate change, terrorism, and migration. The G20 summit has the potential to have a significant impact on the global economy and politics. The decisions made by the leaders of the world’s largest economies can affect the rest of the world, particularly in the areas of trade and finance.
