BUDGAM, MARCH 28: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, S F Hamid today chaired a Nagar Diwas programme at a local park in Humhama.

Representatives from trade unions, respected elders and general public from Humhama areas participated in the programme and gave their inputs regarding the development plans.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the main purpose of the Nagar Diwas is to have detailed discussion with all stakeholders to finalize the “Town Beautification Plans and development plans for other urban parts of the District”.

During the programme, the DC took detailed stock of the ongoing developmental works related to PHE, Power, Health, Education and other facilities.

He stressed on speedy work execution on the ongoing Humhama- Budgam road project to ensure smooth to and fro traffic movement along this important route.

After a detailed discussion, the DC assured the people of the area that all suggestions projected by them will be incorporated on priority. He also gave on the spot directions to the concerned officers for time bound redressal of the public issues raised by the public on the spot.

At the outset, the DC stressed on beautification of urban areas and proper maintenance of public parks, functioning of street lights and robust functioning of drainage networks in these areas.

He exhorted officials to ensure timely macadimization of approved road projects, besides carrying out repairing of lanes, bylanes, interior pathways and other links on war footing basis.

He urged local youth to register under different self- employment to open their own business ventures and become job providers instead of job seekers.

He stressed that pending development work on the playground be expedited for its timely completion to provide better sports facilities to the local youths.

Expressing his concern, over the drug abuse spread, the DC appealed locals to play an active role in curbing the drug menace from the society for a better society and safeguard the young generation. He urged elders and parents to ensure tight vigil that their wards remain away from drugs or any other social evil activity.

Stressing on cleanliness and maintenance of proper sanitation, the DC urged locals to avoid dumping of waste on roadside, drains, streams or anywhere in open areas besides urged locals to cooperate for proper disposal of daily generated garbage in the area.

The DC said the District Administration has started the process of Nagar Diwas as a part of the “Jan Abhiyaan” plan wherein the general public is made an active part of plan formulation.
