DDC Vice chairman visits KGBV Potushai Lolab, inspects ongoing work,interacts with girl students

KUPWARA, MARCH 17: The District Development Council, Vice Chairman, Kupwara Haji Farooq Mir today visited KGBV Potushai Lolab to inspect the ongoing work of construction of boundary wall of the institution.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by ZEO Sogam, Ali Mohammad and ZEPO Sogam, Fayaz Ahmad Wani.
VC interacted with Girl students and staff and listened their grievances.
KGBV Warden, Mymoona Khanum and students briefed the Vice Chairman about prevailing scenario of the KGBV Potushai and demanded clean drinking water for the hostel and toilet facility for KGBV where 50 girl students are enrolled for boarding and lodging facilities.
VC took the issue of shortage of drinking water with Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti department Kupwara who assured that water supply connection will be provided to KGBV on priority basis.
Regarding lack of toilet and washroom facility, VC asked ACP Kupwara to get washroom/toilet facility constructed under SBM for girl students and staff on priority.
The District Development Council Vice Chairman, inspected the work of construction of boundary wall for KGBV which is under progress with a cost of Rs 18.00 lakhs under Samagra Shiksha Scheme.
VC asked the Executive Engineer concerned to speed up the pace of the work so that work is completed within stipulated time and girl students and female staff of KGBV feel safe secure.
While interacting with girl students of KGBV, VC highlighted the achievements of women in every field of life, empowerment and role of women and engendered development of women and asked the girl students to study with full dedication and commitment and take the advantage of different women oriented programmes and schemes of Government.
Vice Chairman, took the lunch with the girl students.
Pertinently, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Scheme was launched by Government of India to make the education system more responsive to the needs of marginalised girls and to enhance their access and retention. Under the scheme, residential schools for girls at upper primary to Sr. Secondary levels were set up in the Educationally Backward Block (EBB)s, towns areas all over the country. The scheme provides education for girls in the age group of 10-18 years belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Minority communities and children of families of Below Poverty Line (BPL).
